WE PURCHASED ANOTHER FIXXER UPPER IN ANACORTES
At least I believe we did. It is still showing as active on Zillow. Yesterday we signed the counter offer on the house. The house was originally for sale for $450 and they dropped it to $395. We offered $330. They countered at $360 and we came back and offered $350 and offered to remove any of the trash that has been left at the house. The house is empty but there are 2 fridges in the kitchen a washer and dryer in the yard and a bunch of cabinets and perhaps 2 more fridges in the garage.
I am calling the house a craftsman but I really don't know for sure if it is. I have a hold on a book at the library to try and figure out what kind of house we have. What we like about the house is that it has a main floor bedroom, 3 bedrooms upstairs, big yard, detached garage, beautiful old doors, beautiful door hardware... It needs a lot of work. A LOT. The foundation needs some repair. It is post and beam and there are some saggy spots especially in the kitchen. There was a busted pipe that drained into the "basement" which is more like a crawl space. The furnace, water heater and sump pump are in the basement and when the pipe burst and water was leaking into the basement the sump pump did not keep up. So we will probably need a new furnace, water heater, sump pump... Chad is pretty sure that the busted pipe was in the laundry room that looks like it used to be a screened in porch. We plan on returning this to a screened in porch. The house smells so bad. Cat urine. There is carpet everywhere but the bathrooms and kitchen. Taking out the carpet is going to be the first job. It looks like painted pine floor under the carpet and I am thinking of sanding it. I will have to do a bit more research on this.
I did not take any pictures of the house because I was not sure that our offer would be accepted. From the moment we looked at this place we have been dreaming of what we would do. I created a Pinterest board called Craftsman before we even put the offer in. Now we are planning planning planning...
Right now I plan on taking a bunch of pictures of the interior and exterior. We are going to go up on Wednesday to see if we can look in the garage to see what we will be dealing with. We thought about renting a dumpster for the demolition but worry about people depositing their garbage in our dumpster when we are not there. This is the day we looked at the outside of the house. There was a momma deer and her two babies in the yard. Some of those trees will have to go. They are way too close to the house.
I just want to say that I am not a writer and I have horrible grammar but I personally love looking at people's remodels and I want to document our journey to our beautiful retirement home. It is going to be hard work. It is going to be expensive. We are going to have a lot of unpleasant surprises. We do this because we both love doing this kind of thing. We love the dream of what we can make it look like. I especially love the before and after. We both also love old houses. As I type this we are watching Rehab Addict and it makes me so excited to get started on this house.
