ENGINEER EVALUATION AND TREE GUY

Tuesday, November 4, 2024

Today we headed up to Anacortes to meet up with an Engineer who is going to evaluate our foundation for the leveling of the house.  Right now the house is a post and pier foundation and it is in rough shape.  One of the corners of the house is held up with a stump.  Either we fix the current foundation or we build a whole new foundation and move the house onto that.  We both like the move idea because then we can have a basement, we can get more height on the house and possibly get a view.  Plus when we move it the house will be more centered in the yard.  I also really like the idea of a sealed up tight basement that the rats can't get into.  The current crawlspace/basement situation has so many areas that rats can get into.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.

So while we were waiting for the Engineer I got busy on the upstairs.  My legs and knees are still pretty sore from doing all that work on the carpet tack this weekend so I concentrated on removing doors and door hardware.  There are 6 doors upstairs.  3 bedroom, 2 closet and a bathroom door that is the size of a closet door.  A couple of the hinges I could not get off the doors because the screws are totally rusted.  I took down the light covers to clean them.  Now I have a bunch of door hardware to strip and clean.  I may have to get a bigger crock pot.

The tree guy came and gave us a quote to remove the fir trees in the front.  They are way too close to the house and if we do move the house they will be right in front of the front door.  We will also have to take down the little holly tree. There are a couple of pear trees that also will go.  I am sad about that one.  He quoted $3000 so we hired him and he will come on the 25th.

Box of goodies to bring home.  There is not a good place to clean these at the house right now.  We have a hose in the kitchen with just cold water.  Under the glass is the door hardware.
All the doors lined up.  I am not sure what I will do with these doors yet.  I really want to strip them down to the bare wood but I may be biting off more than I can chew.  I got this old picture at a thrift store in Kamloops.  My Mom bought it for me.  I am not sure where I will put it so I just put it here for now.
Striped off some paneling in the studio.  The wallpaper is cute but it is in rough shape.  Wallpaper over it or expose the shiplap?
I used this enzyme cleaner on the floor that is supposed to get rid of the pet urine smell.  It seems to be working.  I ran out of cleaner but you can see the spot that I finished at.
The bad hallway is starting to smell better.  I also burned incense all day in an attempt to cover up the stench.
Look at that pretty wood under the hardware.  So pretty.
