HELP FROM SAGE Saturday, November 16, 2024 Sage is here visiting from Los Angeles.  He came up to Anacortes with us this morning to help with the demo on the house.  We brought up the 2 doors we bought from Earth Wise Architectural Salvage.  I found the doors online at the Aberdeen store and paid $5 each to have them transferred to the Seattle store.  They are 5 panel doors with transoms on top.  We are going to use them for the downstairs bathroom and downstairs bedroom.  The doors are beautiful.  I want to find the pulley hardware to open and close the transoms.  While at the salvage store I found my chandelier.  It is brass and so darn beautiful.  $175 plus tax.  I love it. When we got to the house we started planning.  Chad set up the doors with some 2x4's so we could get an idea of what it could look like.  Then we all talked for a long time about how to lay out the bathroom. Chad and I both want a walk in showe...

ENGINEER EVALUATION AND TREE GUY Tuesday, November 4, 2024 Today we headed up to Anacortes to meet up with an Engineer who is going to evaluate our foundation for the leveling of the house.  Right now the house is a post and pier foundation and it is in rough shape.  One of the corners of the house is held up with a stump.  Either we fix the current foundation or we build a whole new foundation and move the house onto that.  We both like the move idea because then we can have a basement, we can get more height on the house and possibly get a view.  Plus when we move it the house will be more centered in the yard.  I also really like the idea of a sealed up tight basement that the rats can't get into.  The current crawlspace/basement situation has so many areas that rats can get into.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.   So while we were waiting for the Engineer I got busy on the upstairs.  My legs and knees are still pretty sore from doing all tha...

THE LAST OF THE CARPET TACK Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd & 3rd, 2024 On Saturday morning we picked up 4 schoolhouse lights and 1 pendant light off Marketplace in Seattle and then headed to Stanwood and got an old pedestal sink.  That thing is so darn heavy.  $125 for the lights and $100 for the sink.   This weekend I finished removing the last of the carpet tack.  I have a few more staples to take out in the tiny closet upstairs but I feel a huge sense of accomplishment.  The floor needs about 50 more moppings before it will feel clean.  It still smells in there but it is getting better.  We don't have hot water right now so I boil water in a huge pot on a hotplate.  It takes a while to boil so it is going to take some time.  My plan is to mop each time we are there.  The hallway upstairs is the worst and I really need to get down on my hands and knees and scrub.  After working on that carpet tack all weekend I certai...
