Looking Around Outside The House
We still do not have possession of the house so we just took some exterior photos. I hadn't taken any photos when we looked at the house because I wasn't sure if the deal would go through. Obviously this is the front of the house that faces the street. Our initial plan is to get the house leveled. It is post and beam foundation and when we looked at the house you could feel some sagging in the kitchen area. So we need to get some estimates on getting that done because that is beyond our skill level. During this visit we came up with the crazy idea of refinishing the old windows. After further research last night it sounds like it will take some work but it also sounds like the best thing to do. These old windows are built to last with some maintenance. The upstairs windows are not new so we will have to come up with a plan for those.
I am also thinking of painting the house red with white trim. I have not come up with a door color yet. I have an old door that I have been working on that may be the perfect front door. What do you think?
I have already stripped some of the paint off this door. It had plexiglass for the glass so I would have to find some new glass. I will have to get some measurements to see if it would work. There is also an old door in the garage of the house but I don't believe it has windows.
Back of the house. The door on the right leads to stairs to the top floor and a door into the kitchen to the left. The door on the left leads to what looks like a laundry room. We believe it used to be a porch and we are going to return it to a screened in porch. That door on the left is messed up and you can see how that side of the house is leaning a bit. The "door" under the double windows on the ground floor is how you get into the "basement" where the sump pump, furnace and hot water tank are. This is going to need a lot of work. We need to figure out this situation.
Double windows on the lower level looks into the kitchen. Right now the kitchen sink faces a wall which I hate so I would like to move the sink to under those window. The problem is those windows are big. I will figure it out when we get the actual measurements. The add on part of the house on the right is a bathroom that is terrible. That is going bye bye. We will sacrifice some bedroom and under stair space to make a bathroom. I hate these kind of add ons. It looks like shit. It is not original to the house.
What really attracted me to this house was the garbage bag hanging from the satellite dish. This yard appears to have been "cleaned up" a bit but there is still so much trash laying around. Even found a needle on the side of the house. Lovely.
Side of the house with windows for the laundry room, then dinning room and then the living room.
Living room window.
Dinning room windows.
Front porch. Broken through. There is a very active wasp nest in the right corner.
Porch ceiling. Isn't this a thing of beauty. We watched a remodel show last night that claims you have to paint your porch ceiling blue to keep out evil spirits. So blue it is. I almost want to strip it to the bare wood but I wouldn't want to invite evil into our house.
This side of the house is the main floor bedroom and that fucking horrible bathroom. I don't know if you can tell how much I hate this stupid add on.
Back side of the garage where you would pull your car or buggy into the garage. Chad wants to move the garage door. Right now this garage is full of old cabinets, doors, fridges? and junk. We agreed to take care of all this junk when we offered $350.
There is a lot of work to do but like I said before the first thing is to get rid of the cat piss carpet. So if you are looking for some area rugs I have a cheap option for you. Free. Let me know.
