REMOVING THE DISGUSTING CARPET
Monday, August 5, 2024
Chad and Wren removed the majority of the carpet on this day. It sounded like a big disgusting job.
This last picture looks like a blood stain. Chad said there were some parts were the underpad was really stuck to the floor. I have a guy coming to give us an estimate to see if the floors can be refinished. The floors look like pine that has been painted white. I am hoping the white paint will help protect it a bit from the pet urine.

Chad brought the trailer up to take some loads to the dump. He got rid of the carpet and some of the appliances that were sitting outside the garage.
We haven't even gotten into the garage to clean out the stuff in there. There are some more appliances and a whole lot of cupboards. I am hoping that some of the cupboards are useable for the kitchen.

We went up to Edmonds to get some free wood windows. I can't even tell you how excited I was. We are hoping to use them in one of the upstairs bedrooms. We have 3 windows in the house that are not wood windows. I have been trying to learn all I can about restoring wood windows. Watching YouTube videos and reading blog post. The only thing that really scares me about the whole thing is the lead paint.
We took the window apart so I can strip the paint. They are double hung. Look at those weights. So damn cool. I pulled out the pulleys? that the rope runs on so I can strip the paint off. According to my lead test the white paint is not lead but the yellowish paint under the white is lead. I purchased a respirator mask, protective suit, gloves... I have the pulleys soaking in the crock pot right now to get the paint off. I am going to set up a protected area in the yard to deal with the lead paint.
Our next plan is to take some measurements and yard clean up. Chad is working on getting a permit to remove the bathroom and trying to find someone to jack up the house and fix the foundation.
I continue to look on craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for free or cheap goods. My latest find is some free storm windows but we have no way to pick them up at this time so I am hoping they are still available on Thursday when we can pick them up. There are some cupboards taken out of a farmhouse that are available in Burlington. I will measure the kitchen on Wednesday and we will see if they will work for us.
