Chad and I spent the weekend working on the house. Well, we spent Saturday working in the garage. Chad drove the truck up loaded with the windows that I found on a Willow walk. The guy that was working on the house where the windows were said he was going to throw the windows in the garbage. I am sure he thought I was crazy when I asked if I could have them. Ended up with 5 wooden windows and a door. I have a lot of work to do.
The windows all had the framing and the weights attached. What an amazing find. I also found a free wallpaper steamer the day before this on a Willow walk. I am planning on making a steam box to help with removing the old glazing on these windows.
We totally cleaned out the garage on Saturday. I vacuumed up all the rat poop and we moved all the cabinets out to the lawn so we could see what we have. There were 2 bathroom vanities in there. We are going to try and make one work but we will have to cut it down. I measured all the cabinets that I want to keep and will try and figure out if they will work or not. We have a whole pile of free stuff sitting on the lawn. I really hope it is all gone the next time we go back. Chad took 2 pickup loads to the dump. Garage stuff and lots of old firewood that is not good for burning. The amount of clean up we have had to do seems never ending. It felt so good to get that garage cleaned up and organized. Now we have room to do stuff in there.
On Sunday I tackled the carpet strip and staples in the living room. I had started it the last time I was there but didn't finish. It is a big job. I found some knee pads at Goodwill that help and got a handy little staple remover off Amazon that works pretty good. Finished by starting to scrub the floor on my hands and knees and remove any leftover staples or nails that I missed the first round. The floor is so gross. Pet stains everywhere. I took off some paneling and removed some wallpaper. Took off a few hinges to bring home and stick in the crock pot. I only got about 1/2 the living room scrubbed. My knees couldn't take any more. Managed to get 1 more window open in the dining room but made the crack that was in the glass worse by working on it.
My handy work in the living room. Still a lot of work to do in there. My hinges ready to go in the crockpot. Why do people paint over hinges? WHY?
